Guest Accommodation at the Swan Inn, Islip
Home Design Studios were tasked with the design responsibility for the refurbishment of a disused and somewhat neglected natural stone built building with a tiled red clay dual pitch roof, located at the rear of the Swann Inn public house in Islip. Our initial survey revealed a large space, somewhat cluttered with disused pub trade objects. At some point this part of the building may well have been used as an ancillary function room to the pub, though it would certainly have been a number of years previous and likely a very basic decor appearance.
The new property owners were keen to put this space to better use and so asked us to design a layout that would accommodate four guest bedrooms all with en-suite facilities. Planning consent was subsequently granted for the new guest rooms and shortly after this we achieved full plans approval for the construction drawings. PAR Building Services Ltd was awarded the construction contract and it wasn’t long before building work was underway. The Swan eventually opened its doors to guests late March 2014.
We then immediately set about producing designs for reorganising the layout of the first floor staff accommodation in the main building. Our remit was to achieve three further bedrooms each with en-suite facilities for the ‘live in’ staff. PAR Building Services Ltd were engaged once again to implement these designs, and the work was subsequently completed in May 2014.
